Theatre Peckham

Theatre Peckham is a community theatre in Peckham, Southwark. It began in the 1990s in a community hall next to the old Camberwell Town Hall. In 1992 it moved to Havil Street and became a fully refurbished theatre when the town hall was rebuilt in 2016. The theatre’s work is guided by the belief that the arts should be open to everyone, not just a privileged few. Its roots go back to 1986 when it started as New Peckham Varieties. The theatre is known for offering low-cost classes and productions for local people. Among its former students is actor John Boyega. Theatre Peckham also partners with the Royal National Theatre’s National Theatre Connections festival, hosting youth theatre performances each year. A group of well-known patrons supports its mission to make the arts more accessible, including John Boyega, Jenny Agutter, Paulette Randall and MP Miatta Fahnbulleh. Visitors find a welcoming space where new and established artists share work with the community. The theatre runs training programmes and puts on plays that reflect Peckham’s diversity. Its academy training won an Excellence in Musical Theatre Award in 2024. Awards in 2022 and 2021 recognise its work in education and resilience during difficult times.
