Sgwd yr Eira

Sgwd yr Eira is a waterfall on the Hepste river near Ystradfellte in Powys. It stands in the mountainous Fforest Fawr area of Bannau Brycheiniog National Park. The fall drops twenty-seven metres over a rock ledge into a narrow gorge. The waterfall is unusual in Wales because visitors can walk behind the falling water. A path cut into the rock leads behind the cascade. Signs warn of falling stones and advise walkers not to stop while crossing. The cliff is slippery and proper footwear is needed. The site can be reached by public paths along the Hepste from Ystradfellte. Another route starts at Benderyn and follows marked trails to the falls. In the television series Merlin, the waterfall appears in a scene where Myrddin and Arthur ride behind the cascade to reach a hidden cave.
