Ben Gulabin

Ben Gulabin stands 806 metres high in the Grampian Mountains, part of the Mounth range in Perth and Kinross. It rises on the eastern side of the A93 road between Blairgowrie and Braemar, within upper Glen Shee. The mountain begins its ascent from the small settlement called the Spittal of Glenshee. Its slopes are steep, yet the climb is straightforward for walkers. The high starting point on the road shortens the journey to the summit. Ben Gulabin is classed among the Corbetts, a list of Scottish hills between 2,500 and 3,000 feet. The mountain attracts walkers seeking a short but rewarding climb. Its clear paths and lack of technical difficulty make it popular with families and less experienced hikers. The views from the top stretch across Glen Shee and the surrounding Grampians. On clear days the Cairngorms and Lochnagar appear in the distance. Its position on the Mounth offers a sense of isolation despite the nearby road. At the summit a trig point marks the highest point of Ben Gulabin. The surrounding plateau provides wide-open spaces for rest or photography. The descent follows the same route back to the Spittal of Glenshee. The mountain’s shape and height give it a presence that dominates the upper glen.
