World Federation of Exchanges
The World Federation of Exchanges stands in the City of London, the historic heart of British finance. It is the global trade body for regulated stock, futures and options exchanges, as well as central counterparties. Founded in 1961 as the FIBV, it moved to London and became the WFE. The organisation represents over 250 market infrastructure providers worldwide. Its members operate the key components of the financial system. The Federation is worth the journey because it brings together the world’s leading exchanges under one roof. As of October 2023 it had 69 members, including major bourses from New York, Tokyo and Frankfurt. Candidates must pass a peer review to join, ensuring high standards. The Moscow Exchange was suspended after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Former members and affiliates also feature in its records. Inside, visitors find a professional setting where global market operators meet. The building reflects the serious purpose of its work. Outside, the surrounding streets echo centuries of financial history. The Federation’s presence confirms London’s role as a centre of international finance.
