A25 road

The A25 is an east–west main road in south-east England. It runs from Guildford in Surrey eastward through the North Downs and into mid-west Kent, ending at Wrotham Heath where it meets the A20. The road passes through towns such as Dorking, Reigate, Redhill, Oxted, Westerham and Sevenoaks. It crosses several rivers including the Wey, Mole, Eden and Darent. Major junctions include the A24 at Dorking, the A23 at Redhill, the A22 at Godstone and the A21 at Sevenoaks. The A25 has been an important route since at least the early 20th century. Much of it remains a single carriageway, with only small sections upgraded to dual carriageway near Guildford and Redhill. The M25 motorway runs parallel to the A25 between Reigate and Sevenoaks, with connections at Reigate, Godstone and Sevenoaks. The road follows an ancient trackway, roughly aligned with the Pilgrims’ Way and the North Downs Way. Along its route are several notable landmarks, including Reigate Castle in Surrey and historic gardens such as Combe Bank Landscaped Grounds and Squerryes Court in Kent. Travellers on the A25 pass through varied landscapes, from the Vale of Holmesdale to the Greensand Ridge. The road skirts the southern edge of the North Downs, offering views of steep escarpments and quarried faces like those at Box Hill. Near the route are entrances to Hatchlands Park and Clandon Park in Surrey, both linked to the London-Surrey Cycle Classic. The road’s path also includes sections of the ancient Harrow Way, connecting historic routes across southern England.
