Modul University Vienna

Modul University Vienna stands on a hill in the 19th district of Vienna, surrounded by vineyards and offering views over the city. The campus is a modern building designed with sustainability in mind, featuring solar panels and a pellet heating system. Its location in Döbling links it to the city’s long tradition of education and hospitality training. The university was founded in 2007 by the Vienna Chamber of Commerce and Industry and businessman Mohamed Bin Issa Al Jaber. Karl Wöber, a tourism scholar, became its first president. In 2012, the Chamber took full ownership, and by 2020 it sold most shares to entrepreneur Suresh Sivagnanam. The university now runs programmes in tourism, data science, international relations and sustainability, all taught in English. Visitors find a collegial governance structure with a University Council, Senate and Board guiding its work. Five academic schools operate under leaders such as Professors Sabine Sedlacek and Astrid Dickinger. The campus also hosts research institutes like the Vienna Institute for Global Studies, which publishes the Digital Entrepreneurship Ecosystem Index. The building displays the university’s values in twelve languages on its façade.
