Denaby Ings

Denaby Ings is a nature reserve beside the River Dearne in South Yorkshire. It covers 23 hectares north of Denaby Main, close to Mexborough. The landscape includes open water, water meadows, woodland scrub and hedgerows. The Trans Pennine Trail runs through the site. Birdwatching is one of the main activities visitors enjoy. The reserve has been a Site of Special Scientific Interest since 1983. Its habitats support a wide variety of wildlife. The open water attracts waterfowl and wading birds. Water meadows provide feeding grounds for many species. Woodland scrub offers shelter and nesting sites. A network of paths allows visitors to explore the reserve. Views over the river and meadows open up along the way. The hedgerows and scrub create sheltered corners for birds. The Trans Pennine Trail gives easy access for walkers and cyclists. The reserve remains a quiet place for nature observation.
