Burg Lotenberg
The Burg Lotenberg stands on the highest point of the Lotenberg hill near Eschenbach in the Göppingen district. It was built in the 13th century by the dukes of Teck as an administrative stronghold. The first written mention of a servant stationed there dates to about 1270. The site passed to Count Eberhard I of Württemberg in 1321 and was already described as a ruined castle by 1535. Traces remain in the form of a group of houses and visible earthworks. A 19th-century survey recorded substantial foundations uncovered only recently. Visitors today see a low mound about four metres high and sixty metres across, encircled by ramparts and ditches. On the western side remnants hint at a defensive enclosure. The surrounding farm buildings occupy the former inner ward, while walkers can follow the old ramparts for wide views over the Alb landscape.
