Pfarrkirche zum Heiligen Kreuz, Tauplitz

The parish church in Tauplitz is a Roman Catholic church in the centre of the village in the Liezen district of Styria. It is dedicated to the Holy Cross and protected as a listed building. Since September 2020 it has belonged to the newly formed pastoral area of the Styrian Salzkammergut within the Diocese of Graz-Seckau, together with five other parishes. The church was built in 1785 after an earlier mission station of 1752. It became an independent parish in 1788 and has been restored several times, most fully in 1984 under Pfarrer Anton Decker. The two-bay nave has ribbed vaulting decorated with plaster strips, and the two-bay choir is set back from the nave with a flat end and chamfered corners. Inside, the high altar of 1788 by Johann Fortschegger features figures of Saints Peter and Paul added in 1891. Martin Johann Schmidt painted the oval image of Christ on the Cross in 1787. The late-Gothic standing crucifix with figures of Mary and John dates from about 1440–50, while the 15 small farmhouse-style Stations of the Cross date from the late Baroque period. The organ was built by Franz Hötzel in 1858.
