G-A-Y

G-A-Y is a long-running gay nightclub brand based at Heaven nightclub in Charing Cross, London. Owned by Jeremy Joseph, it began in 1976 as BANG at the London Astoria’s basement. The club moved to Heaven in 2008 after operating from the Astoria for fifteen years. G-A-Y Late in Goslett Yard and G-A-Y Bar on Old Compton Street were once part of the brand. A franchise also exists in Manchester’s Gay Village. The venue has drawn thousands each week and hosted major pop stars. The Boston Globe called it London’s largest gay-themed club night. NME reported 6,000 clubbers attending weekly. The Independent described it as a key gig for today’s pop stars. Saturday nights feature drag queens and mainstream musicians alike. Acts including Madonna, Kylie Minogue and One Direction have performed there. Inside Heaven, visitors find a multi-level club with music and drinks. The space hosts drag performances and live acts regularly. The venue remains a central spot for London’s LGBTQ+ nightlife. Outside, Charing Cross offers easy access to nearby bars and theatres.
