Herbert-Gerisch-Stiftung
The Herbert Gerisch-Stiftung stands in Neumünster-Brachenfeld, Schleswig-Holstein. It is a private art foundation set up in 2001 to foster regional and international contemporary art. The site includes a sculpture park, a historic villa, a gallery and a landscaped garden. The foundation is worth visiting for its ambitious programme of up to three major annual exhibitions and smaller cabinet shows. It has built a collection of 22 sculptures by artists such as Horst Antes, Menashe Kadishman and Olaf Nicolai. Cultural events, publications and museum education form part of its remit. Visitors find the Villa Wachholtz, a 1903 Jugendstil house, hosting changing exhibitions of painting, graphics, photography, sculpture and video. The Gerisch Galerie, once a private swimming pool, offers 160 square metres of exhibition space. Outside, the restored 2.5-hectare landscape garden designed by Harry Maasz in the 1920s leads into the sculpture park with works by international artists.
