Marsco

Marsco is a peak in the Red Hills on the Isle of Skye. It stands east of Glen Sligachan and can be climbed from the public path through the glen towards Loch Coruisk. Another route starts from Coire nam Bruadaran on the western slopes. The summit offers wide views across the main Cuillin ridge and out to the sea. The mountain is counted among the Grahams, a list of hills between 600 and 762 metres high. Many walkers consider Marsco the finest of these. A photograph taken by Richard Nutt shows Marsco and Glen Sligachan on the cover of the second album by Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark. A song called ‘Nightfall on Marsco’ by the Scottish group Runrig appears on their 1981 album Recovery. The name reflects the mountain’s presence in local culture. Visitors find open moorland, steep gullies and a broad summit ridge. The glen below holds patches of woodland and rushing burns.
