Slough Town F.C.

Slough Town Football Club plays in Slough, Berkshire. It is a semi-professional club competing in the National League South, the sixth tier of English football. The team was formed in 1889 after local clubs amalgamated. It first played under the name Slough and District F.C. before becoming Slough F.C. and later Slough Town F.C. The club’s nickname, The Rebels, comes from its breakaway move in 1945 that led to the creation of the Corinthian League. The club has a long history of rivalry with Windsor & Eton, known as the Thames River Derby. Slough Town has won league titles in the Corinthian League and the Athenian League. In 2004–05, it reached the second round of the FA Cup, beating Football League One side Walsall. The same season, Slough Town won the Isthmian League Cup, with goals from Ian Hodges and Josias Carbon securing a 3–1 victory over Hampton & Richmond Borough. Visitors to the club find the Dolphin Stadium, which has been the home ground since 1889. The stadium once hosted greyhound racing after a track was built around the pitch in 1928. The club’s early matches were played in Church Meadow and Poyle Park before settling at the Dolphin Ground. Today, fans watch The Rebels compete in the National League South. The stadium remains a key part of Slough’s sporting heritage.
