St Peter's Church, Spring Hill

St Peter’s Church stands in Spring Hill, a district of Birmingham. It is a former Church of England parish church, now Grade II listed. The first church on this site opened in 1827 at Dale End before being demolished in 1899. A new building was designed by Frank Barlow Osborn and consecrated in 1902 by the Bishop of Worcester. The parish was created that same year from parts of All Saints’ Church in Hockley and St Mark’s Church in Ladywood. The church closed in 2001 and the parish merged with St John’s Church in Ladywood. In 2004 the building became the New Testament Church of God the Rock. The original 19th-century structure was replaced by Osborn’s stone church, which still dominates the street. Inside, the building retains its Gothic Revival style with tall lancet windows and a wide nave. The stonework and roof remain largely unchanged since 1902. The surrounding area includes small terraced houses and busy roads, giving the church a quiet presence amid the city’s streets.
