Broadwood Stadium

Broadwood Stadium is a sports complex in Cumbernauld, North Lanarkshire, built in the early 1990s. It sits on the edge of the new town of Cumbernauld, ten miles from Glasgow, where senior football had never been played before. The stadium has three seated stands and an artificial pitch, with a community sports centre beside it. A BMX track runs alongside, and four five-a-side pitches sit behind one stand. The site also hosts a gym and changing rooms for local clubs. The stadium has hosted major finals and shocks over the years. It staged the Scottish Challenge Cup final four times and rugby’s Finals Day once. In 2006, Clyde beat Celtic in the Scottish Cup at Broadwood, one of the biggest shocks in the competition’s history. The stadium has also been home to Glasgow City Women, Rangers reserves, and the Scottish Rugby Academy. International rugby league matches have taken place here, as well as the Rugby League Commonwealth Championships. Visitors find three covered stands arranged around the pitch, with space for 7,936 seated spectators. The artificial pitch is used for football and rugby, while the BMX track draws young riders. The community sports centre offers fitness classes and changing facilities. On match days, the stands fill with fans of Hamilton Academical, Cumbernauld Colts, or visiting teams. The surrounding area is quiet, with housing estates and open land nearby.
