St. Helen's Rugby and Cricket Ground
St Helen’s is a sports ground in Swansea, Wales. It sits beside Oystermouth Road near the city centre. The venue has two pitches and stands that face each other across the field. For more than a century it hosted both rugby and cricket. In 2026 the Ospreys rugby region will return here after twenty years away. The ground’s history includes many famous sporting moments. In 1882 it hosted Wales’ first home rugby international. In 1935 Swansea RFC became the first club side to beat New Zealand’s All Blacks at St Helen’s. The record crowd of 50,000 watched a rugby international here. Sir Garfield Sobers also hit six sixes in one over on this ground during a first-class cricket match. Visitors now find a redeveloped stadium with three covered stands. The pitch remains the same green rectangle framed by the stands. The old east stand has been replaced by a modern metallic stand. Beyond the boundary wall lies Oystermouth Road, where the ground’s entrance sits close to the Patti Pavilion.
