100 Bishopsgate

Two modern office towers stand on the eastern edge of the City of London financial district. The taller tower rises forty storeys above Bishopsgate, its lower floors shaped as parallelograms to fit the irregular site. A seven-storey building behind a preserved façade houses restaurants and offices. A half-acre public space sits between the two structures. The site has a history of change. In 1993 an IRA bomb seven metres from St Ethelburga’s Church damaged nearby buildings. Later a pub called the Magpie and Punch Bowl, operating since 1839, was rebuilt before being demolished for the current scheme. The 100 Bishopsgate Partnership, led by Brookfield Office Properties and Great Portland Estates, developed the project. Visitors find a landscaped plaza linking the two buildings. The lower floors of the tower provide large office floors for major tenants. Above, the rectangular upper floors offer views across the City. The restaurant floors in the smaller building open onto the public space.
