Schneeberg (Dientner Berge)
The Schneeberg stands in the Dientener Mountains west of Mühlbach am Hochkönig in Salzburg. Its two summits rise to 1938 metres, the higher named Dientner Schneeberg and the lower Mühlbacher Schneeberg. The Dientner Schneeberg once lay within the parish of St Veit and its summit cross was erected by the local fire brigade. The name St Veiter Schneeberg recalls this history. Every year the fire brigade of St Veit holds a mountain mass on the main summit. On the northern and eastern slopes lie several ski runs that belong to the Hochkönig ski area. This area forms part of the larger Ski amadé network of linked pistes. Visitors reach the summits by following well-marked paths through alpine meadows and coniferous forest. The views extend across the Salzburger Schieferalpen and deep into the Hohe Tauern range. On clear days the Hoher Tenn and Hochkönig themselves appear close at hand. The contrast between the forested lower slopes and the open rocky tops adds to the mountain’s appeal.
