Niedersächsisches Spargelmuseum
The Niedersächsisches Spargelmuseum stands in Nienburg/Weser, a town in the Landkreis Nienburg/Weser. It is a regional museum run by the local authority and part of a network of museum sites across the district. The building itself is a half-timbered hall house dating from nearly four centuries ago. Originally it served as a farmhouse in Dolldorf before being moved to Nienburg in 1963. Today it houses the museum dedicated to asparagus. The museum explains how asparagus is grown, harvested, processed, distributed and sold. It covers 120 years of asparagus history in the Nienburg area and also represents other important Lower Saxon growing regions such as Braunschweig and Burgdorf. Exhibits include old machinery, tools and items from asparagus-processing businesses in Nienburg. The displays show how the crop shaped local life and economy over more than a century. Visitors find a permanent exhibition of historical equipment and documents inside the old hall house. The museum garden surrounds the building, adding to the rural atmosphere. The Quaet-Faslem-Haus nearby provides further context about the region’s heritage. The setting itself recalls the days when asparagus fields stretched across the landscape.
