Holy-Trinity-Church

The church of the Holy Trinity stands in Derendorf, a district of Düsseldorf. Founded in 1691, it is the oldest parish outside the former city walls. The present building, completed in 1893, replaced an earlier brick church from 1692–93. The new church was designed by Caspar Clemens Pickel and built in the neo-Gothic style. After wartime destruction it was rebuilt in the late 1940s and early 1950s under the guidance of parish priest Ernst Kreuzberg. The parish once included several daughter churches that later became independent. The church is notable for its spacious nave, wide column spacing and three eastern choirs. Its 50-metre tower holds six bells and a stone crown above the clock. Inside, the 1964 renovation introduced pyramidal ceiling forms. The altar area features a large mensa and a gothic crucifix, while the choir chapel contains windows by Franz Pauli depicting scenes from the Book of Revelation. Two reliefs on the sacristy wall commemorate the canons Gebrüder Sommers and Prälat Thinel. Visitors enter through a small porch that leads to the Marienkapelle on the right and the Taufkapelle on the left. The Marienkapelle holds a figure of the Virgin and Child flanked by Saint Joseph. The Taufkapelle contains a marble font topped by an angel and windows illustrating the life of Jesus. The sacristy door is framed by ironwork showing the Holy Trinity. The organ, built in 1959 by Romanus Seifert & Sohn, is currently being enlarged to 106 registers.
