All Saints Church, Scholar Green

All Saints Church stands in the quiet village of Scholar Green, part of the parish of Odd Rode in Cheshire. Built in the 19th century, it is an Anglican parish church designed by the well-known architect George Gilbert Scott. The church is recognised nationally as a Grade II* listed building for its architectural importance. It remains an active place of worship and works closely with nearby churches in the area. The building was commissioned by Randle Wilbraham III, a local landowner, who wanted a church closer to his estate. The church’s history includes notable figures and craftsmanship. The pipe organ, installed in 1887, was played by Havergal Brian, a composer who later wrote many symphonies. The interior features fine details such as a terracotta bust of Randle Wilbraham III, carved by a French sculptor. The reredos, designed to resemble Leonardo da Vinci’s *The Last Supper*, serves as a memorial to the Wilbraham family. Stained glass windows, including one by C. E. Kempe, add colour and meaning to the space. The church’s bells were made by a respected foundry in Loughborough. Visitors find a carefully designed interior with a nave, aisle, and chancel. The west end of the nave has a symmetrical façade with carved figureheads and a statue of Christ above the doorway. The aisle and chancel are separated by elegant marble columns and a wrought-iron screen. The octagonal pulpit and chalice-shaped font are made of alabaster, while the reredos and stained glass windows tell stories of faith and memory. The church’s exterior shows fine Gothic Revival details, from buttresses to traceried windows. Its craftsmanship and design reflect the high standards of 19th-century church building.
