Church of the Holy Trinity

Holy Trinity Church stands on high ground to the south-east of the village of Weston in Hertfordshire. Built of flint and coursed ironstone rubble, the church is a Grade I listed building. Its cruciform shape dates to the 12th century, with later additions in the 15th century including the south aisle, south porch, clerestory, new windows, and south transept. The chancel was rebuilt in 1840 in a Neo-Norman design by Thomas Smith for the Rev. Benjamin Donne. The church underwent further restoration in 1867, which included adding the upper stage of the tower, and the vestry was added in 1880. The church holds several notable features from different centuries. The nave roof and font both date to the 15th century, with the octagonal font resting on original grotesque corbels. The octagonal oak pulpit, moved from the Church of St Mary the Less in Cambridge in 1840, is said to have been used by Jeremy Taylor. The belfry contains five bells, with the oldest dating to 1634 and the newest to 1867. The churchyard is home to the supposed grave of the giant Jack o'Legs, an unusually long grave that may have been placed there to support local legend.
