Honourable Artillery Company Museum
The Honourable Artillery Company Museum stands in Armoury House on City Road in Islington. It opened in 1987 to display the regimental archives and military objects. The building belongs to the Honourable Artillery Company, the oldest regiment in the British Army. The company still forms part of today’s Army Reserve. After a full rebuild, the Duke of Edinburgh reopened the museum in October 2011. The collection holds uniforms, armour, silver, medals and weapons from different periods. Archival papers go back to 1537 and cover 17th- and 18th-century militia and City of London records. Decorative art and equipment illustrate the regiment’s long history. The archives are especially valuable for researchers of early modern military and civic life. The museum is open only to members and their guests. Inside Armoury House, visitors see the displays arranged around the main hall. Cases show medals awarded to company members over centuries. Weapons and armour from the 16th to the 19th century line the walls. Silver pieces and regimental silverware sit in glass cases. The oldest documents are kept in archival storage nearby. The atmosphere reflects the company’s continuous service since the Tudor age.
