Sendeturm Wippershainer Höhe

The Sendeturm Wippershainer Höhe stands 1.3 kilometres north of Wippershain, close to Bad Hersfeld in northern Hesse. Built in reinforced concrete, the 75-metre tower rises from farmland at 454 metres above sea level. It was part of the regional DAB network until its recent reactivation for DAB+ channel 7b in October 2025. The tower’s main role is to carry digital radio and television signals across the region. Nearby high sites such as Hoher Meißner and Heidelstein provide FM and DVB-T coverage, while smaller local transmitters like Bad Hersfeld’s Obersberg fill gaps in the valleys. Signals from the Bavarian Kreuzberg site can also be picked up here on clear days. Visitors reach the tower along quiet country lanes that climb gently through fields and woodland. The concrete shaft is plain but solid, with a small equipment cabin at its base. From the surrounding hilltop there are wide views east over the Fulda basin and west towards the volcanic rim of the Hoher Meißner. The site is unfenced and open, so walkers often pause here for a short rest and a look around.
