St Cadoc's Church

St Cadoc’s Church stands in the Monmouthshire countryside near the village of Penrhos. Built in the 15th century, it is a parish church in the Perpendicular style. The church was restored in 1848 and again in 1878 under the architect John Prichard. Its tower was repaired in 1905. After falling into disrepair by 2016, it was made safe and restored with a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund. It remains an active place of worship and is listed at Grade II*. The church’s walls are of Old Red Sandstone, giving it a warm, earthy colour. Its Perpendicular windows and simple nave create a quiet dignity. The recent work returned the nave to use after years of closure. The tower now stands firm once more. The restoration respected the 15th-century design while making the building serviceable again. Inside, the church offers a plain but peaceful space. Light falls through the restored Perpendicular windows. The sandstone walls and roof timbers are now sound and safe. Visitors find a calm atmosphere, with no modern distractions. The church sits in a small graveyard under open Monmouthshire skies. It is a place where history and quiet worship meet.
