The Tower, Meridian Quay

The Tower stands on Meridian Quay in Swansea, a city on the south coast of Wales. At 107 metres it is the tallest building in the country and the only skyscraper. Around it are several other high-rises that form part of the same £50 million housing and office development. The tower was planned in 2003 and construction began in 2006. During building a worker fell three storeys and died, and a fire on the 20th floor took 45 minutes to put out. The structure reached its full height in September 2008. Inside the 29-storey tower most floors are residential apartments. A 24-hour concierge desk sits on the ground floor to assist residents. The top three floors house Altitude28 Restaurant & Sky Bar, which opened in December 2024 to replace Grape and Olive. In 2008 the penthouse on the 26th floor sold for £1 million. The restaurant on the top once seated 290 diners under its previous name, Penthouse. Visitors enter through the main lobby where the concierge can direct them to the lifts. The lifts travel quickly to the upper floors where the restaurant offers wide views across Swansea Bay. On clear days the coast of the Gower Peninsula is visible to the west. The bar area inside the restaurant has floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the city and the sea. From the terrace outside, the sweep of Swansea’s docks and the hills beyond can be seen.
