Schloss Unterboihingen
Schloss Unterboihingen stands in the Wendlingen district of Unterboihingen, surrounded by a park enclosed by castle walls. Its oldest parts date from the 12th century, when it may have been a small water castle. The Thumb von Neuburg family bought it in 1739 and still own it today. The main building is a two-storey structure from the 16th century, later given a Baroque makeover. Inside, a library occupies the upper floors, while the attached chapel is used for weddings. The estate also includes an old stable and a Bandhaus, once used to store wine barrels secured with iron hoops. In the 19th century the Bandhaus doubled as overnight quarters for coachmen. Since 2016 it has been licensed for celebrations. The park around the castle walls remains a quiet green space within the town. Visitors walk past the Baroque entrance portal under the mansard roof to reach the library inside the main building. The chapel’s interior is used regularly for civil ceremonies. The Bandhaus, with its sturdy timber beams, now hosts private parties and public events. The whole complex shows layers of medieval, Renaissance and later styles in a single setting.
