Driesh

Driesh is a mountain in the Grampians of Scotland. Its Gaelic name is Dris. It stands east of Mount Keen, the most easterly of the Munro peaks. The mountain lies north of Kirriemuir in Angus. Its proximity to Dundee draws many local walkers. For Dundonians it serves as a familiar peak like Ben Lomond is for Glaswegians. The view from its slopes looks over Strathmore to the Sidlaws. The mountain rises to a height that makes it a recognised Munro. Its rounded summit offers wide views across the surrounding countryside. The slopes are gentle enough for most hill walkers to reach the top. The route from Glen Clova is popular with families and newcomers. The plateau at the top gives a sense of space and quiet. The area around Driesh is part of the Cairngorms National Park. The lower slopes are covered in heather and grass. The higher ground shows rocky outcrops and small burns. The mountain sits within a landscape of rolling hills and farmland. On clear days the Firth of Tay can be seen to the south. The contrast between the wild summit and the cultivated glens below is striking.
