Schloss
Schloss Döhlau stands in the village of Döhlau in Upper Franconia. It is a manor house once known as one of three knightly seats in the village. The Rabensteiner family held it first, then after they died out in the 17th century ownership changed quickly among the families of Kotzau, Eckersberg, Machwitz and Falkenstein. A fire in 1702 destroyed the old building and the present structure was built afterwards. Since 1791 the Waldenfels family has owned the house. The entrance of the manor displays two epitaphs moved from the church of St Peter and Paul in Döhlau. These stone memorials recall earlier residents and add to the house’s historical presence. The building itself shows the style of the early 18th century after the fire. Its walls and layout still reflect the changes made by each successive owner over the centuries. Visitors find a quiet country house set among the fields and villages of Upper Franconia. The manor sits at the edge of Döhlau with views across the surrounding countryside. The two epitaphs at the entrance stand as silent reminders of the families who once lived here. The building’s modest scale and plain stonework give it a solid, unassuming character. The Waldenfels family still lives in part of the house, adding a living link to its long past.
