Luisenturm
The Luisenturm stands on the Johannisegge, a 291-metre hill in the Teutoburger Wald near Borgholzhausen. The Hermannsweg long-distance trail crosses the summit where the tower rises. It is the fourth lookout structure built on this spot since the first wooden tower went up in the 19th century. The 21-metre tower offers a 16-metre-high viewing platform. On clear days the view stretches north across the Ravensberger Land to the Wiehengebirge and west into the Münsterland plain of the Westphalian Bight. In the opposite direction the eye reaches the hills of the Sauerland. Close below lies the town of Borgholzhausen in its valley. The surrounding Teutoburger Wald forms part of the Weser-Ems watershed. Streams on the north-east slope flow to the Weser while those on the south-west slope drain to the Ems. A panorama on the website labels distant ridges so visitors can identify what they see.
