Broad Law

Broad Law stands in the Manor Hills range, part of the Southern Uplands of Scotland. It is the second-highest point in the Southern Uplands and the highest in the Scottish Borders. The hill rises to 840 metres and has a prominence of 653 metres, making it a major summit. Its smooth, rounded shape contrasts with the steep sides of the surrounding glens. The landscape resembles the Cheviots or the Howgill Fells. The hill is often climbed from the Megget Stane in the south, starting at 452 metres. It can also be reached from nearby villages or as part of a 50-kilometre trek between Peebles and Moffat. At the summit stands the highest VOR beacon in the UK alongside a radio tower. Broad Law’s summit was once briefly considered the county top of Selkirkshire due to a boundary change in 1891. Visitors find wide grassy slopes and steep glens around Broad Law. The highest point of Peeblesshire lies on its summit, though historic boundaries lie further east. The area offers long views across the Southern Uplands. The climb rewards with open moorland and clear air. The radio tower and VOR beacon mark the summit clearly.
