Wormsley Park

Wormsley Park is a private estate in the Chiltern Hills of Buckinghamshire, covering 2,700 acres of rolling countryside. The estate sits in the Hambleden valley, stretching from Stokenchurch to Turville. It includes a cricket ground, a two-acre walled garden, and a large library. The grounds offer wide vistas and varied landscapes. The estate also hosts Garsington Opera in a purpose-built pavilion. The estate has a long history, founded by the Scrope family in the late 16th century. It later passed to the Fane family, who sold it to Sir Paul Getty in 1986. Getty restored the house and added a library and theatre. The area is known for its red kites, reintroduced in 1989 after near-collapse of the project. Garsington Opera moved to Wormsley in 2011. The cricket ground, built in 1992, was inspired by Mick Jagger. It features a mock-Tudor pavilion and a pitch modelled on The Oval. The ground has hosted many famous cricketers and international teams. Past visitors include Imran Khan, Mike Gatting, and entertainment figures like Peter O’Toole. The estate also rents space for events and filming work.
