Ortskapelle hl. Koloman

The Ortskapelle hl. Koloman stands in the centre of Hölles, a village in the district of Wiener Neustadt in Lower Austria. It occupies a small site on the main street, framed by houses and the road’s steady flow of traffic. The chapel belongs to the parish of Matzendorf and falls under the deanery of Piesting in the Archdiocese of Vienna. Built in the early 19th century, it follows the classical style of the period. A plain door on the short side facing the street leads inside, topped by a round window. On the same side a small bell tower rises, its pointed roof rising above the roofline. The tower contains a clock and openings for the bell to sound. Inside, the single room holds a late-baroque altar from the 1770s, its painted panel depicting Saint Coloman. Visitors step into a narrow space that feels cool and quiet after the street outside. The altar’s gilded frame catches the light from a side window cut through the pilasters. The image of the saint shows him in pilgrim’s dress, staff in hand. The chapel’s modest size and classical proportions make it a calm place to pause.
