Kilmany Parish Church

The Kilmany Parish Church stands in the quiet village of Kilmany in Fife. Built in 1768, it remains largely unchanged since then. The church is a simple rectangular building with a white-harl exterior and stone dressings. A small bellcote with an open bell sits above the west gable. The church is no longer used for regular worship but remains a historic landmark. Thomas Chalmers, founder of the Free Church of Scotland, served as minister here from 1803 to 1815. Around 1860, the interior was updated under the direction of David Rhind. The ceiling design likely dates from this period. The church’s modest interior includes three round-arched windows on the south side, with the middle one smaller than the others. The church sits within its own graveyard, surrounded by weathered headstones. The south façade features three arched windows with keystones, while the north side has two tall, narrow windows. A small porch with a sloping roof projects from the west end. The building’s simplicity and historical connections make it a quiet place to reflect on Scotland’s past.
