Schaubude Berlin

The Schaubude Berlin stands in a converted 1930s building on Greifswalder Straße, once home to the Atlas cinema. The red-brick corner block sits near the S-Bahnhof Greifswalder Straße and is protected as a historic monument. Its entrance on the corner of Storkower Straße is easy to spot from the street. The venue is a publicly funded workshop and production site for object and figure theatre. Since 1993 it has invited guest companies, staged co-productions and run festivals without keeping a permanent ensemble. The annual Theater der Dinge festival, launched in 2018, has become one of the leading events for contemporary object theatre in Germany. Inside, the main hall hosts performances for both children and adults. The foyer displays changing art installations in its street-level windows. The building’s former cinema foyer still shows traces of its earlier life, while the upper floor studios support residencies and workshops.
