River Garry

The River Garry flows through Perth and Kinross in the Scottish Highlands. It begins at Loch Garry near the Pass of Drumochter and travels southeast through Glen Garry to join the River Tummel near Killiecrankie. The river’s course follows a deep glacial trench carved long ago. Several tributaries feed the Garry, including the Allt Dubhaig, Edendon Water, Errochty Water, Bruar Water and River Tilt. The Falls of Bruar drop near Calvine, and the Falls of Tarf plunge further west. Loch Errochty holds back the Errochty Water before it reaches the Garry. The A9 road and railway from Perth to Inverness run alongside Glen Garry, using the same route north. Walkers can follow paths along the river’s banks or through the glens where its tributaries flow. The landscape shows signs of ancient ice, with steep sides and wide valleys. The route from Loch Garry to the Tummel passes through quiet countryside and open moorland.
