Neues Schloss Teublitz
Schloss Teublitz stands two storeys high in the small town of Teublitz in the Upper Palatinate. Its smooth plaster walls are divided by plain pilaster strips and capped by a mansard roof. The building is listed as a monument, and beneath the lawns archaeologists have traced the foundations of earlier houses and garden layouts. The house was built between 1750 and 1780 by Joseph Carl Wilhelm Teufel von Pirkensee, who took his own life there in 1780. Before the present building there was at least one older castle, destroyed in the Thirty Years War; fragments of it may still lie under the town park or on the so‑called Swedish Redoubt. The estate passed through several noble families, from the Kochs to the Gises, before being bought by a farmer in 1919 and later turned into a social‑care home. Visitors enter through a gateway crowned by two stone lions holding the Teuffel von Pirkensee coat of arms. Inside, the former living quarters now house therapy rooms and seminar spaces. Outside, the park was laid out in the English style around 1800 with a lake, an island, and a round temple on an artificial mound. Part of the park remains open as the town’s public park, while the rest is fenced off.
