Haus Schlickum
Haus Schlickum stands in Glehn, a district of Korschenbroich in the Rhein-Kreis Neuss. It is a moated manor house, once the seat of a knightly family first recorded in the early 12th century. The estate passed through generations of Schlickum lords until the last male heir died in 1802. The present brick manor was rebuilt after a fire in 1755 by architect Matthieu Soiron. The five-bay façade still shows the original mid-19th-century design, with a sandstone portal bearing the Lohausen coat of arms. Five stone balls on the baroque-curved gable once marked the knight’s rank and provided food for wandering craftsmen on the old Roman road. Today the house remains a private home and a working farm. Its moat, restored courtyard and surviving outbuildings recall the gradual decline of a medieval fief into a modern estate. The building is listed as a monument by the city of Korschenbroich.
