Dominican (formerly Franciscan) monastery in Olomouc

The Dominican monastery in Olomouc, together with the church of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary, forms an ensemble in which Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque features meet. The first Dominicans arrived in the city at the beginning of the thirteenth century. King Přemysl Otakar the Second granted them the older chapel of Saint Michael on the castle hill, where they gradually built their convent and a new church. Under Emperor Joseph the Second the house was dissolved, and the order moved into the former Franciscan monastery, where it lives to this day.
