London Hilton on Park Lane

London Hilton on Park Lane stands on Park Lane in the Mayfair district of Westminster, overlooking Hyde Park. It is a 28-storey concrete-framed skyscraper with 453 rooms and 56 suites. The hotel opened in April 1963 as London’s first skyscraper hotel, designed by American architect William B. Tabler. Inside are six restaurants, including the Park Lane Club casino. The building’s height and position made it a modern landmark when it opened. The hotel has played host to many notable events and figures. In 1967, the Beatles met Maharishi Mahesh Yogi here before travelling to Uttar Pradesh to meditate. In 1975, an IRA bomb injured 63 people in the hotel. During the 2012 London Olympics it served as the Olympic Family Hotel. The hotel also hosted fashion shows, celebrity gatherings and a James Bond themed bar in the 1960s. The hotel has housed several restaurants over the years, including Trader Vic’s with its Polynesian interior and Shanghai Me on the rooftop.
