Clune Park Church

Clune Park Church stands in Port Glasgow, Inverclyde, on the edge of the Clune Park Estate. Built in 1905, it served the growing community for ninety-two years until services ended in 1997. The building is a Category B listed structure, recognised for its architectural importance. Plans to regenerate the area left its future unclear for decades. Demolition was proposed in 2024 and approved the following year. The church’s closure marked the end of a long period of use. After 1997 it stood empty while Inverclyde Council considered redevelopment options. The building’s condition gradually deteriorated, adding to the uncertainty. Demolition finally began in April 2025 alongside the adjacent Clune Park Primary School. During the process two workers were injured, halting work temporarily. Visitors once approached the church along Robert Street in Port Glasgow. Its stone walls and tall windows formed a landmark on the estate. Inside, the main hall held rows of pews facing a central pulpit. The organ stood to one side, silent since the last service. Outside, a small graveyard held weathered headstones from the early 20th century. The site now awaits redevelopment after the controlled demolition.
