Thorpe Park

Thorpe Park stands beside the Thames in Surrey, 32 kilometres west of London. The park sits on land once worked as flooded gravel pits, giving it wide lakes and water edges. It began in 1979 as a leisure park with water sports and heritage exhibits. Today it is a major theme park with roller coasters, themed cabins and live events. Hyperia, the UK’s tallest and fastest roller coaster, opened in 2024 and reaches 72 metres and 130 kilometres an hour. The park is worth the journey for its record-breaking rides and steady flow of new attractions. In 2019 it welcomed 1.9 million visitors, making it Britain’s third most popular theme park. Hyperia’s first outer-banked airtime hill and Europe’s tallest element set new standards. Older rides such as Colossus, Nemesis Inferno and Stealth keep crowds returning. The park also hosts seasonal events like Fright Nights and has added family areas like Angry Birds Land. Visitors find a mix of thrills and themed zones. The Dome at the entrance holds bars, arcades and guest services. Amity features the giant splash ride Tidal Wave and the shuttle coaster Stealth. Fearless Valley contains Hyperia, while Lost City holds the spinning coaster Colossus. The Jungle offers Nemesis Inferno and themed eateries. Ghost Train and The Walking Dead: The Ride sit in The Dock Yard. Between rides, guests can relax at Amity Beach or watch films at Sunset Cinema.
