Sender Ansbach

The Ansbach transmitter stands on the Ludwigshöhe hill above the town of Ansbach in Mittelfranken. A steel tube tower rises 111 metres, with a service room at 79.3 metres and three external platforms for mobile and directional antennas at 85, 92.5 and 100 metres. Vodafone Kabel Deutschland runs the Ansbach 1 head station here, feeding cable television, internet and telephony to about 35 000 households across Ansbach city and district and parts of neighbouring districts. Two amateur-radio repeaters and a beacon operate on the structure. The FM repeaters use 431.800 MHz for receive and 439.400 MHz for transmit on 70 cm, and 1270.675 MHz receive with 1298.675 MHz transmit on 23 cm. A 3 cm beacon transmits on 10368.810 MHz, giving the site the amateur locator JN59gg89. Visitors see the tower’s grey shaft rising above the hilltop, with its three antenna decks visible against the sky. Below, the head station building houses the cable network equipment that links homes to the wider world. On quiet days the hum of the lift can be heard as it carries technicians to the service room, while radio enthusiasts monitor signals from the repeaters and beacon.
