Litovelská branka

The Litovelská branka is a small gate in the fortifications of Olomouc. Its name points to the nearby town of Litovel. Unlike the great fortress gates, which were built for roads and wagons, passages of this kind served as narrow, easily controlled openings through rampart and wall. Today the plain structure recalls the fact that the old town of Olomouc was for centuries surrounded by a powerful defensive ring, of which only individual pieces have survived.
