Szőlősi Arany-lyuk

Immerse yourself in the unique charm of Szőlősi Arany-lyuk, a protected cave located in the Gerecse mountain range within the Duna–Ipoly National Park. It is situated in Vértesszőlős, on the northeastern side of the Halyagos-hegy, in the upper part of the Farkas-völgy. It is marked on tourist maps with the name Arany-lyuk and a cave symbol. The cave is part of a network that includes the Vértes László-barlang and the Szende-barlang. The cave is notable for its unique geological formations and its role as a habitat for several bat species. The cave's interior consists of a short passage leading to a small chamber and a 10-meter-deep main chamber. The cave is an active water sinkhole formed along the fault lines of Triassic limestone. It is open to visitors and has a cool temperature range of 7.5–10 °C. The Gerecse Barlangkutató és Természetvédő Egyesület conducted bat surveys, identifying four species, including the common pipistrelle and the greater horseshoe bat. The cave is also mentioned in various literary works, with different names such as Aranylyuk and Szöllősi Arany-lyuk. Visitors can explore the cave's unique features, including its narrow entrance, small chambers, and the main chamber. The cave's location in the Gerecse mountain range offers scenic views of the surrounding landscape. The cave's significance is further highlighted by its inclusion in national and regional geological records, with a barlangkataszteri number of 4630/28. The cave's geological and ecological importance is recognized through its designation as a protected site within the Duna–Ipoly National Park.
