It was founded as early as the beginning of the thirteenth century, then extended over several centuries and repeatedly rebuilt after devastating fires. In the eighteenth century the monastery was dissolved and the Dominicans moved into the former Franciscan house. Later the buildings served the faculty of education, before being returned to the archbishop's seminary.
